MANILA – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers got back into winning form in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament with a 25-5, 25-23, 25-23 win over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at the San Juan Arena.

Ilongga Aduke Ogunsanya and Desiree Cheng led the way with 11 points apiece for the defending champion Lady Spikers, which remained at solo second place with a 6-2 win-loss slate.

Ernestine Tiamzon added 10 markers, while Kim Kianna Dy had nine points for the Lady Spikers, which bounced back from a 26-24, 26-24, 21-25, 25-17 defeat to the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

Still hurting from the loss to the Lady Eagles, the Lady Spikers vented its ire on the Lady Tamaraws by limiting it to just five points in the first set, the lowest set score in the league in seven years.

In the second and third sets, the Lady Spikers built an early lead only to allow the Lady Tamaraws to catch up but the Lady Spikers showed its poise down the stretch to score a straight-set win.

Akala ko mauulit this game yung errors namin against Ateneo,” said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus. “Sana natuto. Yung nangyari noon, lesson na iyon, kasi nalaman na nila kung ano ang ia-adjust sa mga susunod na laro.”

Mary Remy Palma led the way with nine points, while Negrense Bernadeth Pons was limited to a season-low eight points for the Lady Tamaraws, which have lost two in a row and dropped to the sixth spot with an even 4-4 card.

Women’s volleyball action resumes today at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses facing the University of the East Lady Warriors at 2 p.m. and Lady Eagles battling the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons at 4 p.m./PN
