MANILA – The University of Santo Tomas Golden Booters leaned on their Ilongga pair to score a 2-1 victory over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at the start of UAAP Season 79 women’s football on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo-natives Hazel Lustan and Charisa Lemoran scored a goal each for the Golden Booters, which moved up to solo first place in the standings with three points.
After a scoreless first half for both teams, the Golden Booters drew first blood with Lustan outrunning the Lady Tamaraws’ defense and calmly put the ball past keeper Kim Parina in the 56th minute.
Less than a few minutes after Lustan’s goal, the Golden Booters was able to extend the lead to 2-0 as Lemoran masterfully controlled a high ball and slotted it home at the 61st minute.
The Lady Tamaraws, however, refused to give up as Jovelle Sudaria scored via a free kick in the 77th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Golden Booters then committed a huge error late in the match on a conceded penalty which Sudaria nearly converted if not for the save of Golden Booters keeper Nicole Reyes./PN
