MANILA – Ilongga Ezel Divinagracia bagged two gold medals in the ongoing 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championship at the DavNor Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum, Davao del Norte.
The 17-year-old Concepcion, Iloilo-native Divinagracia teamed up with fellow Ilonggas Elvy Villagoniza, Berna Luz Talaron and Annie Rose Mercurio to capture gold in the girls 4 x 100 meter relay event.
Divinagracia, a product of Iloilo National High School, clinched her second gold medal in the annual sporting event in the 17-and-under after topping the girls’ 100 meter hurdles event.
Batad, Iloilo-native Gimpel Ablona also captured a gold medal as she bested 15 other athletes in the girls’ javelin throw event with her 34.99 meter hit. Villagoniza, meanwhile, clinched a silver medal in the triple jump event.
Divinagracia became the second Ilongga athlete to win two golds in the tournament after Concepcion, Iloilo-native Jocelyn Cayetano, who ruled the 1,500 meter and 3,000 meter run.
Meanwhile, Fritz Den Marc Bartonico of Dumarao, Capiz also won a gold medal in the fifth day of the week-long festivity on Thursday after topping the secondary boys’ arnis doble baston event.
Bartonico will have a shot at his second gold when he teams up with Spencyr Corneta, Jeson dela Cruz, Jessie Mae Beso, Laica Mateo, Mariyah Keziah Mae Sumiran, and Keynan Paguntalan in the Labanan Event.
Jeavan Susal of Iloilo City and Bacolod’s John Del Jagolino, meanwhile, settled for silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the arnis sword and dagger event, which was ruled by Marvi Rivera of Zamboanga.
Ilonggo Thaniel Jan Sapio was good enough for a bronze medal in the elementary single weapon event, which was also dominated by Rivera. Davao’s Christian Langula finished second./PN
