MANILA – Filipina jiujitsu fighter Mary Kathrina Uytiempo Armonio dominated the adult female white rooster event of the World Jiujitsu IBJJF Championship 2017 in Long Beach, California.
The Iloilo-born Armonio (Tokai Brazilian Jiujitsu) defeated Ma. Daniella Santos Palanca (Hong Kong Jiujitsu) in the gold medal match.
Armonio headed to the final face-off after beating Katie Ways (Hypermodem) in the semifinals round, while Palanca edged Gulzhan Nakipova (Alliance) in the other Final Four match.
Armonio — ranked No. 1 in her category — earlier defeated Barbara Eunice Quiroz (Alliance) in the first round before ousting Ly Nguyen (Absolute MMA Australia) in the second round.
The World Jiujitsu Championship, commonly known as Mundials, is the most prestigious Brazilian Jiujitsu tournament in the world. It is hosted annually by the International Brazilian Jiujitsu Federation./PN
