MANILA – Days after Alyssa Valdez formalized her move to Thai-based volleyball squad 3BB Nokornonnt, four more Filipina volleybelles are reportedly under the radar of other teams in Thailand.
A highly-placed source told Panay News that a number of Thailand-based squads are asking the availability of Ilongga Abigail Maraño, Guimaras-native Jovelyn Gonzaga, Kim Fajardo and Jaja Santiago.
Among the four, only Passi, Iloilo-native Maraño would be available to play for the Thai volleyball league since the Philippine Superliga (PSL) season won’t resume until June next year.
Santiago and Fajardo, on the other hand, won’t be able to suit up until April as they will play for the National University Lady Bulldogs and De La Salle University Lady Spikers, respectively, in the upcoming UAAP season.
Gonzaga, for her part, will also not be available for the next eight to 10 months as she is set to undergo the Candidate Soldiers Course, a training requirement for Philippine Army officers.
Valdez recently opened the floodgates for the possible entry of Filipina volleyball players in Thailand after being signed by the 3BB Nakornonnt for the Volleyball Thailand League.
The former Ateneo Lady Eagles star will make her debut for 3BB Nakornonnt on Jan. 7 where her team will face King-Bangkok. The 3BB Nakornonnt currently has a 3-2 win-loss record./PN
