MANILA – Wangs Basketball Couriers leaned on the hot hands of Chris Bitoon to score a 93-84 upset over Racal Motors Alibaba in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Bitoon, a native of Iloilo City, led the way with 22 points, with 13 coming in the second half, for Couriers, which moved to fifth place in the standings (3-2 win-loss), on Monday night.
Robbie Herndon notched a double-double with 17 markers and 13 boards, while Michole Sorela and Chris de Chavez contributed 13 points each.
“Big fish iyong tinalo namin, pero sa pagsisikap at team effort, nakuha namin iyong panalo,” said a jubilant Couriers head coach Pablo Lucas. “Sana lang magtuluy-tuloy na ito.”
“Nakukuha na naming iyong chemistry, unlike before na may wall. Na-motivate namin iyong players na kailangan talaga naming maging isa kung gusto naming manalo,” he added.
Couriers showed the chemistry they have been raving about as they weathered a fourth-quarter rally and broke away from a 70-68 affair to an 81-72 edge behind timely hits by Sorela and Bitoon.
Marlon Gomez led the way with 15 points and six rebounds, while Roider Cabrera shot 3-of-8 from beyond the arc to collect 14 markers for Alibaba, which suffered their second-straight loss and slid to 2-2 win-loss./PN
