Ilonggo boxer Baconaje to fight for WBC belt tonight

ILONGGO boxer Arnel Baconaje hopes to capture the WBC Asia Silver Featherweight belt when he faces undefeated Tomjune Mangubat tonight at the Parkmall Mandaue in Cebu.

The San Rafael, Iloilo native is in search for his second professional boxing championship after previously handling the Philippine Boxing Federation super bantamweight belt.

On the other hand, the 21-year-old Mangubat is hoping to get back to his winning ways after settling for a split draw against veteran Venson Delopere last year at General Santos City.

Baconaje will be entering the match with an impressive 10-3-0 win-loss-draw ring record, including eight stoppages, while Mangubat has a perfect 10-0-1 slate with 9 knockout wins.

Meanwhile, Negrense Renz Rosia will be vying for the Philippine Visayas Professional Boxing Association super flyweight belt when he faces Ponciano Remandiman in the event that was presented by Omega Boxing Promotions.

The Cadiz City, Negros Occidental native is hoping to return to winning ways after dropping his last three title matches, while Remandiman was on a hot streak with stoppage wins over his two opponents last year.

The 30-year-old boxer parades a 14-7-1 win-loss-draw ring record with seven stoppage wins, while the 22-year-old Remandiman has 9-4-1 boxing slate, including five knockout wins./PN
