MANILA –Mixed martial artist Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan keeps himself busy while waiting for his ring action return in the ONE Championship after almost five months of inactivity.

With five wins under his belt since joining ONE in March 2016, Catalan is poised to bring big splashes this year, especially after ending his 2019 with a knockout win over Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart of Cuba last November.

The Ilonggo said that he can’t wait to be once again on the cage and is keeping himself busy. He, however, knows it will take a little while due to the coronavirus disease 2019 that struck the country.

“What’s happening today is sad, not only in this country, but in the whole world because of the coronavirus. But I believe this is just one test that we have to hurdle, a test which will only make us stronger and united,” Catalan said.

He added: “Now there’s a lockdown, but training still continues in the gym. For me, it’s the perfect opportunity to hone my skills and be ready when another opportunity comes knocking.”

On top of keeping himself both physically and mentally fit, the 29-year-old is also lending a hand to his fellow fighter and brother Rene “The Challenger” by hosting different team building exercises.

“The lockdown is a good opportunity for us to know each other more and guide the younger ones in the gym. This is where we set the foundation of the group. We all have dreams, and we will try to reach them together,” Robin said.

“As a citizen, it’s my responsibility to follow the government and avoid being part of the problem. At the same time, I am also able to take care of myself, stay busy and still hone my skills,” he added./PN
