ILOILO – The provincial government has lauded an Ilonggo worker in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for her vital role in assisting distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including the recent safe return of an abused Pavia, Iloilo resident from Saudi Arabia.
Provincial Board member Rolando Distura, during a recent Sangguniang Panlalawigan session, confirmed that the maltreated OFW has already arrived home. He credited the repatriation to the initiative of OFW Luna Parcon of Barangay Dapitan, Pototan, Iloilo who worked closely with the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“Through her initiative and coordination with the PESO of the Iloilo Provincial Government, one Ilonggo OFW in need has returned safely to Iloilo, while another is in the process of returning home,” Distura said.
A resolution has been introduced in the Provincial Board to formally honoring Parcon, recognizing her “exemplary dedication in facilitating the safe repatriation of distressed overseas Filipino workers from the Middle East, and for her commendable coordination with the Iloilo Provincial Public Employment Service Office.”
The resolution highlighted that Parcon has been instrumental in linking distressed OFWs to local support services abroad, embodying the bayanihan spirit among Filipinos overseas.
“Parcon’s dedicated service, motivated by her concern for her fellow Ilonggos, serves as a powerful example of humanitarian action and community unity,” the resolution stated.
Distura assured the public that the Iloilo Provincial Government, through PESO, will continue providing financial aid and reintegration support under the EMBRACE Program for returning OFWs.
He also urged closer coordination among government agencies to ensure the welfare and protection of Ilonggos working abroad./PN
