MANILA – Unlike other province-based players who have decorated resumes, Ilonggo volleyball player Jerremy Pedrosa had to work his way out to crack the University of the Philippines men’s volleyball team lineup two years ago.
Pedrosa, a former player of the Iloilo City National High School, admitted that he doubled his efforts since he was not as prominent as others as he did not get to play in Palarong Pambansa or any regional meets.
“I was just invited by my best friend to try out at UP then. I think it lasted for three days,” Pedrosa told Sports Lang Facebook page. “Nung first day, 300 ang nag-tryout, then biglang na-cut sa 10, luckily I survived the tryout.”
“I considered my UP entry as the highest moment of my volleyball career. Kasi kahit na hindi naman ako nakapag-Palaro or regional meet, nakapasok ako dito,” added the Mandurriao, Iloilo City-native.
“Sobrang na-insipire lang ako na maglaro nang makapasok na ako sa UP kaya siguro sinipagan ko na lang din sa training, ganon. ‘Tsaka disiplina lang lagi,” the 6-footer Utility further said.
Meanwhile, Pedrosa is looking forward for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to come to an end as he is raring to return to volleyball training.
“Medyo malungkot lang na nangyari itong COVID-19. Na-cancel ang UAAP tapos rin hindi na normal lahat,” Pedrosa said. “Kailangan ko na siguro i-adapt ang sarili ko sa new normal ng volleyball training kapag tapos na itong pandemic na ito.”/PN
