BACOLOD City – City hall promised an incentive for the Bacolod City College graduate who ranked ninth in the September 2016 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Elementary Level.
Ma. Fatima Ofracio, who majored in general education, graduated cum laude just this March. She obtained an 86.40-percent rating, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Mayor Evelio Leonardia cannot yet disclose the amount, saying the college has not achieved such feat before. “We will make a policy (on giving incentives) regardless who gets the amount,” he said.
The mayor said the city government will sponsor a “testimonial dinner” for the college’s LET passers and their parents.
According to the PRC, 23,378 elementary teachers out of 77,466 examinees and 31,334 secondary teachers out of 92,754 examinees passed the LET.
Of the 90 education graduates from the Bacolod City College who took the exam, 67 passed, said Administrator Joanna Bayoneta.
The 21-year-old Ofracio of the college’s Taculing campus was from Barangay Punta Taytay.
She was the third of four children of Catalina, a barangay health worker, and Roberto. The couple had been separated.
Ofracio finished elementary and high school at Francisco Ruis Flores Elementary School and Sum-ag National High School, respectively.
In college, she was a scholar of an educators’ alliance from first year to third year, and bagged a Commission on Higher Education scholarship in her senior year with the help of then congressman Leonardia.
“I am very proud of Ofracio’s achievement,” the mayor said in a statement. “And it makes me even prouder that while we have the cheapest tuition at only P30 per unit, we can give them quality education.”
The city college was among the top 10 performing schools in teacher education in the country in 2015, Bayoneta said.
