ILOILO City – Police ruled out foul play in the death of a 42-year-old detainee of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Jordan, Guimaras.
Efren Estiaga of Barangay Balcon Maravilla, Jordan was believed to have committed suicide.
Estiaga, who faces domestic violence and child abuse charges, was found dead hanging inside the isolation facility of BJMP-Guimaras with a blanket tied around his neck.
Jail Officer 2 Reynaldo Palma said Estiaga’s suicide was discovered around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday by his fellow detainees.
Palma added they have yet to determine what drove Estiaga to take his own life as of this writing./PN
