ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) lacks personnel.
It needs 500 additional officers, provincial director Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon disclosed in his “State of the IPPO Address.”
“Currently our (police officer-civilian) ratio in some police stations is 1:2,000. Other police stations exceed that,” Tuzon said.
“We have to rationalize the distribution of our personnel,” he added.
Currently the IPPO has a total of 1,992 officers.
They include 79 police commissioned officers, 1,732 police noncommissioned officers and 180 non-uniform personnel.
The province has a population of 2,018,947.
According to Tuzon, the ideal ratio should be 1:1,000.
Within the IPPO, the Provincial Public Safety Company has the “worst personnel variance,” with only four working officers down from the original eight.
“We are coping, but it is highly recommended that more officers be assigned to the IPPO to meet the security and safety demands of each town,” said Tuzon.
The provincial command is pinning its hopes on the Police Regional Office 6.
“There is an ongoing recruitment at the regional office,” he said. “Maybe they can give consideration to this matter.”/PN
