MARK Zuckerberg is in court, apparently for the first time, defending his products from the accusation that they are addictive, and deliberately so.
As a retired, grumpy senior, I try to avoid the world of influencers, the latest challenge that may injure me, and certainly online medical advice that could kill me.
Of course, much of it is right but how can I tell? I get my medical advice from my local, living, doctor.
The only service I regularly use is YouTube. I use it as a learning tool – how to use my new coffee machine or how to turn off all of the beeps on our new car. This sort of information is reliable and accurate but I am still getting videos about coffee grinding a month later. It keeps feeding me suggestions that I might be and usually am interested in and it’s hard to stop.
I worry when YouTube knows more about me than many of my friends.

Stay home, it’s probably nicer and safer
The United States’ Trump Administration has stopped immigrant visas from 75 countries. One or two such as Russia could be expected but most are what he considers “third world” countries.
Who decides each country’s rating? I am sure he considers their mineral and oil reserves amongst other financial considerations.
Most of the countries could do with help from the USA in terms of aid and security but they probably won’t get any.
I am sure that all of the countries have a clear majority of good people who would make good immigrants but will never get a chance, or at least for about three years.

Time out
Elections create their own weird worlds. Stephen Colbert isn’t allowed to show a James Talarico interview as equal time for candidates should be available.
CBS has blocked Colbert rather than also getting a Republican candidate. There might be a shortage of Republicans who want to appear on his show and answer his questions.
This is not new given that when Ronald Reagan was a candidate, the film “Bedtime for Bonzo” couldn’t be shown. Of course it might now be “Bedtime for Bozo” instead.

Gold is heavy
At a local mint there is a big gold bar with a notice saying if you can pick it up, you take it home. This is when people realize how heavy gold is. The bar is still there.
The message needs to be delivered to President Trump. If he covers a presidential plane in gold as he has suggested and the pilots try to take off they will find it flies as well as a brick.
Beauty comes in many colors, not just gold./PN
