BACOLOD City – Mayor Joselito Malabor of Isabela, Negros Occidental is planning to institutionalize Tigkalalag Festival through an ordinance.
The town had stopped celebrating the festival for the past four years, which started during former mayor Enrique Senen Montilla III’s term as mayor.
Malabor earlier said the local government is already preparing for the festival’s relaunch.
With the theme “Renewing the Unique Culture of Tigkalalag Festival,” the celebration will be from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, Malabor said.
Seven groups composed of village clusters will compete with each other in the street dance contest barangay category while six in the school category.
Moreover, 12 candidates will also vie for the Tigkalalag Queen title.
The candidates will be judged based on “beauty and brains,” Malabor said.
Malabor said the winners will represent the town in the Panaad Festival next year.
Malabor added that the festival’s relaunch is a result of “people’s clamor.”
He said the festival has become the trademark of the town after it won several awards in the provincial festival Panaad sa Negros./PN
