BACOLOD City – Task Force Kasanag (TFK) national commander John Chiong was among those who had the chance to meet President Rodrigo Duterte at the Tarmac of the Bacolod-Silay Airport on Oct. 22.
Chiong said his encounter with the President only lasted for “a few minutes.”
He relayed to Duterte TFK’s appeal for the resurrection of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Chiong also submitted to the President documents supporting the revival of the NIR.
On Aug. 7, Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 38 which rescinded President Benigno Aquino III’s EO No. 183 that merged the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental into one region on May 29, 2015.
Chiong said he presented to Duterte the positive things that NIR brought to Negrenses.
He also gave the President a report on corruption and illegal drugs in the province.
Duterte, on the other hand, gave him the contact number of Christopher “Bong” Go, the President’s official aide.
Duterte was in the city last Sunday to join Bacolodnons and Negrenses in celebrating the recently concluded 38th MassKara Festival highlights.
The President delivered a speech before a crowd at the public plaza after witnessing the arena dance performance of Barangay 18, this year’s champion in the barangay category.
Duterte, however, did not say anything about resurrecting NIR in his speech./PN
