ILOILO City — Residents of Western Visayas can expect generally improving weather conditions over the next several days, although afternoon and evening rain showers and thunderstorms are still likely in many areas, according to the latest five-day regional weather forecast released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Covering July 13 to 17, the forecast indicates that Iloilo, Guimaras, Capiz, Aklan and Antique will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms as the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon, or Habagat, gradually weaken.
Temperatures on Monday are forecast to range from 23°C to 31°C in Iloilo and Guimaras, while Capiz, Aklan and Antique are expected to record temperatures between 25°C and 32°C. From Tuesday until Friday, daytime temperatures across the region are expected to hover between 31°C and 32°C, with nighttime temperatures settling at 25°C to 26°C.
PAGASA also forecast light to moderate southwesterly to southerly winds across Western Visayas during the five-day period. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, allowing generally safe conditions for most marine activities, although localized thunderstorms may still trigger brief periods of rough seas.
The improved weather outlook follows several days of persistent rainfall that caused widespread flooding, rain-induced landslides, evacuations and disruptions to classes, government services and sea travel in Western Visayas due to Habagat, which was intensified by Tropical Cyclone Inday.
Despite the expected improvement, PAGASA reminded residents not to let their guard down, especially those living in low-lying and landslide-prone communities, as localized thunderstorms may still bring heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning.
