J.Cordon books finals spot in Treñas tournament

ILOILO CITY – J. Cordon Construction-DPWH 2nd District were the first team to reach the finals of the Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Basketball Tournament on Sunday night at the Jaro Gymnasium of the city.

The no.1 ranked J. Cordon did not put to waste their twice-to-beat incentive when they busted the no.4 ranked Guimaras Leopards through a come-from-behind victory, 108-101.

Guimaras led as much as 12 points before J.Cordon slowly clawed back their game during the second half.

The scores were tied for the both teams with over three minutes left in the last quarter, but the victors were lifted by import Landry Sano and Rolly Jaca to secure J.Cordon’s victory.

Leopards head coach Richard Gabayoyo still lauded his all-Guimarasnon lineup despite falling short to reach the championships of the tournament.

“I am still proud of our overall outcome here in this tournament because we paraded an all-Guimaras lineup and we opted not to tap an import. We will aim for the third place finish,” Gabayoyo said.

The 2nd ranked Uniwheels and 3rd ranked On D Move Sportswear will fight all out for the last spot of the finals, with Uniwheels owning a twice-to-beat advantage./PN
