ILOILO City – A jail officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) will be facing a homicide case for shooting to death a man who was involved in a hacking incident in Zone 5, Barangay Ungka, Jaro district yesterday.
Senior Jail Officer 1 Reynaldo Palma, 52, assigned at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo and a resident of Zone 2, Barangay Ungka, Jaro district, voluntarily surrendered to the Jaro police station.
He also surrendered his service firearm, a caliber .9mm pistol.
Jaro police said Palma shot dead Hernane Caspillo, 35, of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, around 12:30 p.m.
According to Jaro police chief Major Eduardo Siacon, Palma was on his way home when somebody asked for help over a hacking incident involving Caspillo and his brother -in-law Ramel Jacome, 49, a resident of the same place.
“Gin-negotiate pa niya (Palma) ang biktima pero gin-attack niya ang suspect gamit ang malaba nga bolo amo to gintiro niya to defend himself. Four times niya gintiro kay may pilas sa kamot and back portion of his body,” Siacon said.
Jacome, meanwhile, was confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center for multiple hack wounds.
Major Denver Beltran, IDJ jail warden, said that Palma was off duty when the incident happened.
“Nag-off siya kaina 11 a.m., and nagderetso siya puli sa Ungka. Mabuot man na siya klase tawo kaso lang may mga instances nga you have to defend yourself,” Beltran said./PN
