ILOILO City – The suspect in shooting a construction worker in Barangay MV Hechanova, Jaro district has been arrested.
The 24-year-old Mike Miguel Ledesma of Barangay Buhang, Jaro faces a frustrated homicide charge.
Mike Miguel was accused of shooting construction worker Jonel Subebe, 33, of Barangay MV Hechanova, Jaro. Subebe allegedly stabbed Mike Miguel’s cousin Albert, 35.
(A story previously published in this section misidentified Albert Ledesma as a construction worker. Only Jonel Subebe was identified as the construction worker in the police report from which that story was based. – Ed.)
The incident happened at around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday at a wake, a police report stated.
Subebe and Albert, also of MV Hechanova, were playing the card game pusoy at the time. Albert told Subebe that he no longer wanted to play but the latter got irked, police said.
After seeing Subebe stab Albert, Mike Miguel shot the construction worker, said Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin, Jaro police chief, citing investigation.
Subebe and Albert were taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district but the attending physician pronounced the latter “dead on arrival.” Albert had stab wounds on the chest, nape and back.
Querubin said they arrested Mike Miguel at around 2 a.m. that day but failed to recover the firearm used in the shooting.
Subebe sustained gunshot wounds on the chest and left arm. He faces a homicide charge./PN
