ILOILO City – The city government has provided job opportunities to “graduates” of drug rehabilitation drop-in centers in seven districts of the metropolis.

During the recent 2nd Regular Joint-Meeting of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and Iloilo City Anti-Drig Abuse Council (ICADAC), Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog reiterated: “We are not only conducting anti-drug operations in the city. We are also providing livelihood programs for them.”

The city government’s Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) in Molo district and Bo. Obrero campuses offer various programs for the 195 drug surrenders who graduated from Community Change Centers called Crossroads.

TIIC-Molo Administrator Mathilde Octavio noted that 93 trainees are now taking livelihood programs such as carpentry, masonry, welding, construction painting, driving, massage therapy and computer literacy.

For the TIIC- Bo. Obrero, Octavio said there are 102 trainees who are taking beauty care, cookery, computer literacy, and dressmaking.

“We are doing something for the drug surrenderees. We are giving them chance to change,” said Mabilog.

The Public Employment Service Office will continue to conduct job fairs to cover every district, after they finished La Paz, City Proper, and Jaro districts, he said. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
