JORDAN, Guimaras – The vaccination rollout for children 5-11 years old started last Tuesday, February 15. The Jordan Rural Health Unit (RHU)-Jordan targets to vaccinate 2,500 children aged five to eleven years old.
While the kick-off ceremony was held at Jordan Municipal Hall and attended by Mayor Ruben Corpuz, the Municipal Health Officer Dra. Robel Gencianeo and frontliners.
Gracianeo is glad to see a lot of parents brought their children aged 5-11 years old to avail themselves of the vaccine.
For Gencianeo these children must get vaccinated before returning to face-to-face classes to protect against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Gencianeo also explained to parents and guardians that the vaccine is safe and effective.
To avail of the vaccine, parents or guardians should sign-up a vaccination form from their barangay officials, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), or barangay health emergency response team to schedule the vaccination date.
Parents and guardians should also bring their children an original copy of the birth certificate or secondary identification cards like an authenticated medical certificate of the childbearing name of the parent, issued by hospital or DOH; baptismal certificate of the child with the name of the parent/s; school ID or records of the child, among others.
Also, parents and guardians should note the expected side effects after vaccination like pain at the vaccination site, fatigue, headache, and fever.
The 2,500 children are part of the 24,354 targets pediatric population in the province of Guimaras. The vaccine used by RHU-Jordan for children 5-11 years old is the reformulated Pfizer vaccine allotted by the Department of Health (DOH).
Last weekend, Guimaras received the 2,000 doses of reformulated Pfizer vaccine which was distributed in the town of Jordan, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, Nueva Valencia, and Buenavista./PN
