‘Gago!’
IN A SPEECH at the anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Quezon City on Aug. 2, President Rodrigo Duterte had this message for former President Noynoy Aquino: “Sabi ni PNoy, ‘Parang walang nangyari.’ Sige, pumasok ka sa droga, PNoy, ‘pag hindi kita pinutulan ng ulo, buwang ka.”
“Anong walang nangyari? Gago ka,” President Rodrigo Duterte further added.
Of course, that comment or message of President Rodrigo Duterte to former President Noynoy Aquino made the 6 o’clock news and created quite a buzz online with the netizens giving their own comments.
Not to be outdone like a knight in shining armor to the rescue of a damsel in distress was former spokesman of Noynoy Aquino, Edwin Lacierda who said on Twitter: “Duterte calling his predecessor ‘gago’ is a reflection of the President’s boorish behavior, cursing never elevates public discourse.”
And Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan chided President Rodrigo Duterte for cursing former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III over the latter’s criticisms of the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.
In a text message to reporters, Pangilinan said the government’s efforts to check the spread of illegal drugs should be from a perspective of a health problem, not a law enforcement problem.
“Dagdag pa hindi naman kailangan murahin at insultuhin ang kapwa natin kung hindi natin sina-sangayunan ang sinasabi nito,” Pangilinan said.
But really, what does “gago” mean?
From that free online encyclopedia: “The Filipino word gago is used to describe a stupid or ignorant man. It may be related to the Portuguese word of the same spelling, which means ‘a man who stutters.’
A majority of the natives of this archipelago who, of course, support President Rodrigo Duterte has this to say: President Duterte was not cursing or insulting former President Noynoy Aquino but he was just describing him properly.
So can we describe former President Noynoy Aquino as “gago” based on the definition we have?
Here’s a sampling of the fiascos and faux pas that happened during the term of President Noynoy Aquino:
* the Quirino Grandstand Massacre wherein eight tourists from Hong Kong where taken hostage and killed by a retired policeman.
* Mamasapano Massacre – 44 troopers of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force or SAF were massacred by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF
* vetoed the enrolled House Bill No. 5842, which provides for a P2,000 across-the-board increase in the monthly pension of Social Security System (SSS) pensioners
* P21 billion lost through Noynoy Aquino’s Development Acceleration Program or DAP according to the Commission on Audit or COA. Of course, we know whose pocket the money went.
* the Typhoon Yolanda Victims Rehabilitation and Housing Project or the lack of it
* missing, rotting relief goods intended for Typhoon Yolanda victims that never reached them
* Unaccounted for, monetary foreign aid amounting to billions of pesos for Typhoon Yolanda victims that went elsewhere, a lot finding their way into the campaign kitty of Mar “Daang Matuwid” Roxas’ failed presidential bid
* According to former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency or PDEA director Dionisio Santiago, the list of narco-politicians that President Duterte is now using in his “war on drugs”, he gave it to former President Noynoy Aquino during his watch but he simply ignored it, doing absolutely nothing.
These are just some of the prominent fiascos that happened during the term of former President Noynoy Aquino, so you tell me, is he “gago” or not?
Most discerning natives say that just by being himself, Noynoy Aquino is already a “major major” (a term made popular by a beauty queen whose name I seen not to recall) fiasco and walking disaster.
Take note, he spent 12 years in Congress –nine years as a congressman and three years as a senator and not a single bill or law to his name.
Is it not the job of a congressman and senator to legislate, meaning to make laws?
So what in the world was Noynoy doing in Congress?
Come to think of it. If Noynoy Aquino is not “gago”, then perhaps the equally incompetent Mar “Daang Matuwid” Roxas might have gotten more votes without the aid of the Precinct Count Optical Scanners or PCOS Machines.
Some people are vehemently saying that Noynoy Aquino is not “gago” but a nincompoop, perhaps both.
This I say: if you believe that Noynoy Aquino was a brilliant President and not “gago”, then you’re the one that is “gago.”
I’ve said this before, the people who support and continue supporting Noynoy Aquino are either idiots who are completely out of touch with reality or they simply make a profit financially by doing so. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
