BACOLOD City – An anticrime task force was asked to bring another case of alleged hospital negligence to the proper authorities.
A 7-year-old girl from Ilog, Negros Occidental died. Her mother, Nancy Pajarillo, blamed the government hospital in Kabankalan City.
Pajarillo wanted justice. She sought help from Task Force Crusaders, a body working under the Office of the Solicitor General.
She and husband Joselito accused the Kabankalan District Hospital of “negligence” and “malpractice,” stated the letter that John Chiong, the task force’s national deputy commander, sent Health secretary Paulyn Jean Roselle-Ubial.
Pajarillo’s daughter was confined in the district hospital on Dec. 28, 2016 but referred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in this city two days later, Pajarillo told Task Force Crusaders.
But on their way to the regional hospital, the child expired, she claimed.
The daughter died of “pediatric community acquired pneumonia and acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration,” according to a certificate of death issued by the Civil Registry Office of Bacolod.
Pajarillo claimed that her daughter was not given proper attention and care by the Kabankalan District Hospital.
At the time the younger Pajarillo was confined there, no pediatrician was around and the child got dehydrated, she said.
A nurse named Gladen Montecastro allegedly scolded the child, too, the mother claimed.
When a certain “Dr. Benarez” ordered the child’s transfer to the regional hospital — around 90 kilometers away — her daughter’s heartbeat and pulse were already too weak, she further said.
A medical staffer of the regional hospital declared the child dead, said Pajarillo.
Panay News was still trying to reach the district hospital for comment as of press time.
Chiong, a native of Bacolod City, said the task force asked the Department of Health to investigate and take proper action.
Task Force Crusaders was formed to serve as a counterintelligence unit of the Office of the President and the Office of the Solicitor General.
But since its creation in August 2016, it has turned into an ally of people complaining against alleged wrongdoing in government.
Previously Chiong himself announced they cater to all complaints about “corruption, crimes and any irregularity in government.”
He had said they aim to push government workers to improve their services and provide people an avenue to raise grievance.
“Ang mga pumoluyo may ara kadtuan nga magpamati sang ila side, ma-facilitate kag ma-refer sini sa proper agencies,” he had said.
Similar previous complaints included two against the regional hospital — over the supposed maltreatment of patients and the alleged negligence that resulted in the death of a Bacolodnon mother and her twins./PN
