Kalibo airport to resume direct flights from Taiwan

AKLAN – Direct flights from Taiwan to Kalibo International Airport (KIA) will resume on Dec. 29, 2022.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)-Aklan manager, Engr. John William Fuerte, confirmed that TigerAir Taiwan of the China Airlines Group will recommence flights using an Airbus 320 aircraft with a carrying capacity of 180 passengers.

According to Fuerte, this is just in time for the influx of tourists and guests to Boracay Island for the New Year celebration and the Kalibo Ati-atihan Festival in January.

Other direct international flights at KIA are from Korea (Air Seoul, T’Way Airlines and JinAir) – two flights per day. These airlines are expected to expand their schedules by March next year.

The CAAP-Aklan manager also revealed that airline companies from Singapore have expressed interest to have direct flights to Kalibo. They could possibly start their operations at KIA in the first part of 2023.

There are negotiations, too, to have direct flights from Malaysia and China, Fuerte said.

These would help the local tourism industry and economy of the province grow further. (PIA)/PN
