Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan: a celebration of unity in diversity

ILOILO City – The Kasadyahan Festival – now known as Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan – is back.

The Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) through the Kasadyahan Committee held a welcome program dubbed “Pang-abi-abi: A Preview of Kasadyahan 2023” at SM City Iloilo’s Activity Center yesterday.

Eight festivals from Iloilo, Antique and Negros Occidental that will compete in the Kasadyahan were introduced. These were the following:

* Tribu Jalaud from the municipality of Calinog

* Tribu Miniluan from Talisay City, Negros Occidental

* Tribu Tiringbanay from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique

* Guban Manughaw-as sang Dumangas from Dumangas, Iloilo

* Sipalay Burangoy Kite Festival from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental

* Tribu Saludan from Tigbauan, Iloilo

* Tribu Madia-as from Culasi, Antique, and

* Pasalamat Festival from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental

“These groups are bringing with them their colorful culture, and this is exactly what Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan is all about. We are here to come together and celebrate our unity in diversity. We show how we are one as Filipinos, and we celebrate our culture and heritage,” said Kasadyahan Festival Committee chairman Dr. Eden Deriada.

Deriada thanked the support of Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas and the IFFI for making cultural traditions relevant.

The Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan is one of the major events of the Dinagyang 2023 which will be held on Jan. 21, 2023, a prelude to the highlight of the festival on Jan. 22./PN
