KALIBO, Aklan – The local government was doubling its efforts in promoting its antismoking ordinance that will take effect in March.
The Sangguniang Bayan passed a resolution mandating all airlines bound for the capital town to have an informative in-flight advisory about the new local law.
The Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance of the Municipality of Kalibo (Municipal Ordinance No. 2016-008) prohibits smoking and vaping in public places, such as within or near schools, public utility vehicles, bus terminals, government offices, and health facilities.
The in-flight advisory was aimed at making tourists using the Kalibo International Airport know that smoking is regulated in the town.
Violators will be fined P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second offense, and P2,500 for the third and subsequent offenses.
Anyone caught selling tobacco products in prohibited areas will be fined P1,000, P1,500 and P2,500 for the first, second, and third/subsequent offenses, respectively.
Aside from Kalibo, the municipalities of Buruanga, Tangalan and Ibajay have their respective no-smoking ordinances. (PNA)
