KALIBO, Aklan – Vice mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz is pushing to hasten the proposed rehabilitation of the town’s main public market.

Dela Cruz with Sanguniang Bayan member Buen Joy French filed a resolution asking mayor Emerson Lachica to push his rehabilitation bid for the Kalibo Public and Wet Market in Barangay Andagao here.

“As the national government currently undertakes a campaign to clean the streets; it is also important that the public market should also be fixed,” she said.

The vice mayor also said that she had received concerns from both tourists and residents about the current state of the public market.

“The rehabilitation of the market could be done by the help of various government agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Provincial and the Municipal Engineering Office among others,” she said.

Currently, the Kalibo Public Market faces several challenges such as clogged drainage and pipes, no proper disposal of garbage, dirty bamboo rods, narrow pathways, lacking lighting, inefficient table, and wet floors.

According to Dela Cruz, the Local Finance Committee and the Municipal Budget Office will be tasked to study and grant the full implementation of the proposed rehabilitation project.

“The Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office and the Municipal Engineer’s Office to implement the said rehabilitation,” she added.

Dela Cruz also proposed to find another bigger public market with outside the capital town decongest roads and expand the developments to other barangays./PN
