KALIBO, Aklan — Kalibo continues to make waves as it advances toward its goal of becoming Aklan’s first city and a central hub for business and investment.
On November 14, the municipality was recognized as the runner-up in the prestigious Manila Times’ ‘Philippine Model Cities and Municipalities Award 2025’ during a ceremony held at the historic Manila Hotel.
Mayor Juris B. Sucro, who accepted the award on behalf of the town, expressed his delight over the recognition and Kalibo’s recent achievements. “We will continue our very best to serve you all. We bring back all the glory and honor to God,” he said.
In recent months, Kalibo has hosted the launch of the 2026 Ati-atihan Festival and its related activities, welcomed Russian tourists arriving directly from their homeland, and saw Mayor Sucro elected as Region VI representative in the national hierarchy of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP).
During the awarding ceremony, Kalibo received nine awards, including 1st Runner-Up for Overall Philippine Model Municipality, and 1st Place awards for Infra Innovator, Business Friendly, Safe Haven, and Tourism and Culture Hub. The town also earned 2nd Runner-Up recognitions for Family First, Livelihood and Employment Centered, Retirement Haven, and Wealth Center.
“With this cascade of achievements, we owe much to the people of Kalibo, the local leaders who have supported the municipal leadership, and the business and tourism sectors for their unwavering commitment to the local government’s agenda of growth and prosperity,” Sucro added.
