ILOILO City – An owner-type jeep fell into a ditch in Barangay Cabunotan, Miag-ao, Iloilo, killing a village chief and injuring four others.
Ma. Rhea Niadas, 34, died of severe head injuries. She was the barangay captain of Bacolod, Miag-ao adjacent to Barangay Cabunotan.
The following were treated at the Miag-ao First Aid Clinic for slight injuries: Renato Fio, 48; Jerheymiah Nico Niadas, 8; Jaira Mae Niadas, 9; and Rhian Nazarene, 6. All were residents of Barangay Bacolod.
The accident happened at around 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Niadas was driving her owner-type jeep.
They were going home, according to Chief Inspector Johnny Tumambing, Miag-ao police chief.
The vehicle overshot a highway curve and fell into the ditch.
“Based on our investigation, the village chief did not have a driver’s license. She was practicing how to drive. Perhaps she lost control of the vehicle,’ said Tumambing./PN
