ILOILO City – Barangay Captain Remia Prevendido Gregori of Bakhaw, Mandurriao district denied she was helping her brother Richard Prevendido, a suspected drug lord.
“She told me she did not know her brother’s whereabouts. She claimed he was not communicating with her,” said Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director.
Gregori also feared her house would be raided and “planted” with illegal drugs, said Canieso.
Deputy Regional Director Levi Ortiz of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 said they received information that Prevendido was hiding in his sister’s house.
In March, Ortiz and his men tried to enter the barangay captain’s house but she refused to let them in. PDEA-6 did not have a search warrant.
“Nagapanginwala siya sang tanan nga accusation against her,” said Canieso.
Around 10 a.m. yesterday, Gregori first conferred with the chief of Police Station 1, Chief Inspector Aldrin Lamera before seeking an audience with the city’s police director at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
But she did not submit herself for police “biological profiling”, said Canieso.
The city police director said he told Gregori to help convince her brother to surrender peacefully.
“Para indi na mabutang sa delikado iya kabuhi,” said Canieso.
The Regional Trial Court, Branch 21 issued an arrest warrant against Prevendido on Jan. 6, 2017 for violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Prevendido was charged following the raid of his house on Oct. 21, 2016. Shabu were seized.
The city and provincial governments of Iloilo are offering a combined P1.1 million bounty for Prevendido’s arrest.
Though it suspected Gregori of helping Prevendido, PDEA-6 admitted it did not have “direct evidence” against her.
No witnesses were brave enough to come out against Gregori, said Ortiz.
What PDEA-6 had was a text message from someone scared to testify, lamented Ortiz.
“We have no direct evidence that could prove Gregori is protecting her brother that’s why we could not file a criminal case against her. Pero hindi tayo bibitiw hangang hindi natin siya ma-pin down,” Ortiz told Panay News.
Gregori was one of three barangay captains that the city council recently investigated for the continued proliferation of illegal drugs in their respective areas.
Barangay captains Keith “Dabing” Espinosa of Monica-Blumentritt, City Proper and Noemi Jablo of Desamparados, Jaro already presented themselves to the police and denied having anything to do with illegal drugs.
Councilor Reyland Hervias said the Liga ng mga Barangay in this city has been trying to convince Gregori to present herself to the police and clear her name.
Hervias, an ex-officio member of the city council, is the Liga president.
“Madamo nga beses nga gin-convince naton siya nga mag-surface sa police station. Indi man naton mapilit kun indi siya,” said Hervias.
On Monday, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) urged Gregori to submit herself to the police for “biological” profiling.
“If Gregori refuses to surrender, we will subject her to an antidrug operation,” said Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, PRO-6’s overall committee chairman on illegal drugs./PN
