MANILA – TNT KaTropa turned to its local crew for most of the game to score 103-96 over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in Game 2 of their PBA Governors’ Cup best-of-five semifinals match last night at the Batangas City Coliseum.
With import Glen Rice Jr. playing limited minutes due to foul trouble, Jayson Castro, Jeth Troy Rosario, Roger Pogoy, and Moala Tautuaa carried the cudgels for KaTropa to level the race-to-three series 1-1.
Castro finished with 20 points and 10 assists; Rosario had 16, including two triples; while Pogoy and Tautuaa had 14 and 10, respectively.
Rice remained effective despite playing for just 22 minutes with team-leading 21 points – 12 came in the early part of the final quarter – before he sat out for good when he was tagged with his fifth foul.
TNT had a blazing start on hits by Kelly Williams, Rosario and Rice for a 31-14 first quarter edge but Kings bounced back in the second, with Justin Brownlee leading the charge, to come to within 47-49 at the half.
Kings led early in the third canto 51-50 on a Japeth Aguilar jumper but the all-Filipino crew of KaTropa led by Castro, Rosario and Pogoy kept Kings at bay with outside hits to build a 73-63 advantage.
Ginebra had its last say to come to within 75-82 on an LA Tenorio triple but TNT turned to the well-rested Rice, who unloaded consecutive points to increase the lead back to double-figures 101-88.
Brownlee finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Aguilar and Solomon Mercado came up with 14 apiece for Kings, which failed to follow-up its lopsided 121-94 triumph in Game 1./PN
