MANILA – Negrense booter Jayson Panhay of Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo announced Wednesday he will hang his boots.
In a Facebook post, the San Carlos City, Negros Occidental-native said it was a tough decision for him to walk away from the sport but is looking forward to live his life away from football.
“This has been the toughest decision of my life, but I always envisaged leaving on the right terms, in the right way and at the right time – and that is now,” the 33-year-old midfielder Panhay said.
“I feel I still have regular football in me but understand that opportunities here in football world are limited, it is therefore a time for new challenge,” he added.
Panhay was a former standout of University of St. La Salle-Bacolod men’s football team before joining Ceres-Negros FC (now known as United City Football Club) in 2014. He then moved to Kaya Football Club-Iloilo in 2016 and became part of the squad’s champion team during the inaugural season of Copa Paulino Alcantara two years ago.
The Negrense football player also made seven appearances in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) – four when he was still with Ceres-Negros (2014 AFC President’s Cup and 2015 AFC Cup) and three with Kaya-Iloilo (2019 and 2020 AFC Cup).
“Thank you to all my teammates and managers over the years. To have gone shoulder to shoulder in many a battle with you has been an honor,” Panhay said./PN
