THE partnership of Kaya Futbol Club and the Iloilo provincial government is expected to spark the Ilonggo youths’ interest in football, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.

Kaya could help the province develop and produce future football players, Defensor said during the signing of a memorandum of agreement on Feb. 6.

“With the presence of Kaya FC, the province’s grassroots programs for football will be strengthened, and it will also heighten the interest of young Ilonggos to play the sport,” Defensor said.

Part of the agreement was for the football club to conduct various grassroots programs in the city and province of Iloilo – teach children and teenagers skills vital to the sport.

“Kaya FC is very much willing to help the province’s grassroots (football) program,” head coach Noel Marcaida told Panay News. “As their partners, it will be an honor for us to discover potential football players there.”

“When we discover Ilonggo youths who have the potential to become the country’s (football) stars, we will develop them,” he added. “We will try to get kids to buy into what we’re trying to do.”

Among the national and international football players from Iloilo province were Emelio Caligdong and Ian Araneta.

Also as part of the deal, Kaya will use the Iloilo Sports Complex in Barangay Magsaysay, La Paz, Iloilo City as home field for training and matches in the 2018 Philippines Football League.  The club will also provide technical expertise for the maintenance of the football field./PN
