KRIS AQUINO opened up about her friendship with First Lady Liza Marcos as well as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., expressing her admiration for the couple for being respectful.
Kris was asked about her relationship with the Marcoses during the second part of her TV reunion with Boy Abunda, as seen in the episode aired on Thursday, Oct. 29.
“I was very, very surprised na — a year ago, when I had lunch for the very first time with the First Lady, she is so smart. Makinig ka lang sa kanya, marami ka nang matututunan,” Kris said.
She recalled how Liza would tell her stories about spending summers at Hacienda Luisita before Kris was born. Explaining their family connection, Kris said that Liza’s mom is the sister of the wife of the oldest brother of her mother, the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
“We’re not cousins. It’s just by affinity. ‘Yun tawag nila. Cousins siya ng first cousins ko,” Kris clarified.
Further speaking about their relationship, she continued, “They’ve been very respectful. Hindi ginustong tanggalin na Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Siguro ang pinakahumanga ako, the president has fought for the West Philippine Sea.”
“Siguro kasi for me, that’s Noy’s legacy,” she said, referring to her late brother, former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. “May isa silang ano — they’re fighting for the Philippines.”
Kris further described Liza as “funny” and disclosed that the latter was among the lawyers who handled the actress-TV host’s annulment from James Yap through the MOST law firm.
“We’ve gotten together three or four more times. She’s funny, and she actually handled my annulment,” she remarked.
Just last August, Liza received an intimate birthday surprise from Kris and her sons, Josh and Bimby. The two families have also previously bonded at occasional get-togethers. (Anne Pasajol © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
