ANTIQUE — Heavy rains triggered a landslide in Barangay Abiera, Sebaste, Antique on July 17, burying four houses under a mound of soil.
According to Mr. Ernesto Galido, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sebaste, three of the houses sustained partial damage while one was totally destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, Antique Governor Paolo Javier left his office at the New Capitol to personally assess the situation in northern Antique following reports of severe flooding, landslides, and mass evacuations in several barangays.
The governor visited Barangay Bacalan in Sebaste, where he monitored debris clearing operations conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along roads affected by the landslide in Sitio Alojado.
Later in the afternoon, Governor Javier met with 51 household evacuees in Barangay Bacalan and distributed food packs to provide immediate relief to the displaced families.
In addition to his visit in Sebaste, Governor Javier also convened with Culasi Mayor Joel Alpas Lomugdang to discuss necessary response and recovery measures after the town was also battered by heavy rains and flooding brought by Tropical Depression Crising.
Members of both the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Culasi joined the discussions. Governor Javier likewise brought additional food packs intended for evacuees in both Culasi and Sebaste./PN
