ILOILO City – An ad hoc committee of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has recommended the suspension for two months of the barangay captain of Jalandoni Estate, Lapuz district for neglect of duty.

The SP will deliberate on the recommendation next week.

The barangay captain is Efren Gimeo. Members of the Jalandoni Estate barangay council accused him and former barangay treasurer Irish Razel Follosco before the SP of unlawfully issuing six checks reaching P239,745.50.

The SP formed an ad hoc committee on June 27, 2017 to conduct an investigation. Councilor R Leone Gerochi chaired the committee.

“After a careful perusal of the records of the case, considering that Gimeno failed to account or properly explain what happened to the checks or corresponding money representing the said checks, the committee hereby declares Gimeno administratively liable for neglect of duty and hereby imposes a penalty of two months suspension,” read part of the committee’s recommendation report.

Gimeo could not be reached for comment as of this writing.

The report, signed by Gerochi, councilors Eduardo Peñaredondo (vice chairman) and Joshua Alim (member), was submitted to the SP yesterday.

Gimeno sought the dismissal of the complaint, arguing that the evidence submitted by the complainants were mere photocopies. Gerochi, however, said the committee secured certified true copies of the checks from the Commission on Audit (COA).

COA has a parallel investigation on the complaint of the members of the Jalandoni Estate barangay council./PN
