MANILA – Jenel “The Demolition Man” Lausa will aim to bounce back when he faces American Eric Shelton in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night 121 today in Sydney, Australia.

This is the third time the native of Concepcion, Iloilo will step in the octagon in the prestigious MMA promotions after splitting his first two bouts.

Lausa had a successful UFC debut when he outpointed Chinese Yao Zhikui on Nov. 27 last year in Australia but suffered a roadblock in his second match when Russian Magomed Bibulatov beat him via decision on April 8 in New York.

A former Pacific Xtreme Combat champion, Lausa said he was all business heading into his match against Shelton as he aims to show the organization that it did not commit a mistake in signing him.

“I have an intense preparation for this match,” Lausa said. “I know I will be facing a tough opponent in Showtime Shelton even if he has lost his last three matches. I know he is hungry to win again.”

Lausa, 28, has a 7-3-0 win-loss-draw record, including 1-1 under UFC. Shelton, meanwhile, has an equally impressive 10-4-0 record.

ANCAJAS IN ENGLAND

Meanwhile, Filipino boxer Jerwin Ancajas will be staking his IBF junior bantamweight championship when he faces undefeated challenger Jamie Conlan today at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland.

The Panabo, Davao del Norte native is very much ready to defend his title from Conlan at the latter’s turf, his trainer Joven Jimenez said.

“Sanay na kaming lumaban sa balwarte ng kalaban. Hindi naman issue sa amin ang venue,” Jimenez told Panay News. “Kuha na namin ang timbang niya at napaghandaan na rin niya ng maigi si Conlan.”

Ancajas, who sports a 27-1-0 win-loss-draw record, captured the IBF belt when he defeated Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo. He then made two successive defenses against Jose Alfredo Rodriguez of Mexico and Japanese Teiru Kinoshita./PN
