MANILA – All members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) must take the lead in promoting federalism, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It will be a disaster…kung hindi PDP-Laban ang magdala,” the President told the ruling party’s Christmas Benefit Dinner for Marawi City at Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City recently.
“Kung ang PDP magdala…because we want to preserve my duty and their duty to their country…to protect the Filipino and maintain and preserve the Republic of the Philippines,” said Duterte.
A federal system of government can help contain threats from Islamic extremists, the President claimed.
“The best way really for PDP…is to fulfill the campaign promise,” said Duterte.
The party must “get a consensus” on what federal structure is best for the country, the chief executive added.
Meanwhile, Duterte asked his party-mates to work effectively in tackling corruption.
He vowed not to spare anyone proven to be involved in corrupt activities.
“Now, mabuti’t nandito tayo. PDP is growing big. I welcome the members there…pero itong atin, I’m just pointing out how our idealism should move forward sa PDP,” he said. “Otherwise, if we do not stop this thing – corruption – mahirap ’to.”/PN
