Lent ‘generally peaceful’

ILOILO City – The Holy Week in Western Visayas was “generally peaceful”, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

There was a sharp decrease in crime incidents, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 public information officer.

The regional police office recorded 158 crime incidents – lower by 125 incidents or 44.16 percent from 2021 Holy Week’s 283 incidents.

Solis cited the “close coordination and collaboration between and among church authorities, local government units, Philippine National Police, force multipliers, volunteer groups, and other government agencies.”

Various police units deployed personnel to secure religious activities such as masses, processions, and Visita Iglesia, among others.

Cops also guarded tourist destinations, piers, land transport terminals and main thoroughfares.

“The massive information dissemination to the general public by the PRO-6 with the very indispensable help of the various media platforms in the region, regarding the measures, regular reminders, tips and proven tactics to ensure that travel, vacation and attendance to religious activities are safe and secure, have been important sources of guidance to the people of the region,” added Solis.

Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, PRO-6 director, lauded various police units for their “individual sacrifices and contribution” in effectively putting into action their security plans.

“May this feat continue as we strive to maintain a safer Western Visayas conducive to live, invest and do business,” said Dongbo./PN
