Leonardia shrugs off 3-way mayoral battle

BACOLOD City – Two mayoral candidates in this capital city filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.

But Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he was unfazed with a “three-way battle.”

The standard bearer of Grupo Progreso (GP), Leonardia said he was confident of a “15-0 victory.”

He added that they were the “most experienced” among the candidates in Bacolod.

Leonardia is up against Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and radio commentator Ray Carmona, who both filed their COCs on Tuesday.

Batapa-Sigue is allied with the ABB-MKK (Asenso for Better Bacolod-Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan) group, the new alliance that challenges GP.

Carmona, on the other hand, is an independent candidate. He ran for councilor in 2013 but lost. He was allied with former mayor Monico Puentevella.

According to Leonardia, Bacolodnons must vote candidates who can ensure the “fast development of the city.”

This can only be achieved if the “congressman, mayor, vice mayor, and councilors are united,” he stressed.

“Our group has integrity, track record and teamwork,” Leonardia added./PN
