BACOLOD City – “Not bad” was how Mayor Evelio Leonardia described the performance of Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky as officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
“[Wanky’s] accomplishments [are] not bad. I just want more performance,” Leonardia stressed.
Wanky replaced Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, who was relieved in January.
He is one of the five candidates for the BCPO directorship that Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, director of the Police Regional Office 18, submitted to Leonardia, the mayor disclosed.
Leonardia refused to name the other four candidates. All he said was he does not personally know any of them.
Will he keep Wanky as city police head? Leonardia said he cannot decide yet.
All barangays in Bacolod are “drug-affected,” he claimed. “I would like that to change, and I have told Wanky about this. I am very serious about this.”
With President Rodrigo Duterte leading the campaign, the fight against illegal drugs has become a national policy, said Leonardia.
“Wanky knows that. When he came in, I told him this (antidrug campaign) is one of my priorities,” he said.
While Wanky is “doing something,” he should “prove himself furthermore,” Leonardia said. “I want more performance.”
Duterte tagged Negros Island Region as “No. 3” in the Philippines in terms of drug affectation, and Bacolod City is the biggest local government unit in the region in terms of population, Leonardia said.
“That is why I want Wanky to seriously, effectively and efficiently improve the situation,” said the mayor./PN
