ILOILO City – An estimated 400 mostly young Ilonggos participated in a 30-minute meditation for world peace at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district on Tuesday night.
They lit 400 electronic “peace balls” then observed a 30-minute meditation.
Similar events were held in New York City, USA (North America); Rio de Janeiro (Brazil); Sydney, Australia (Oceania); Barcelona, Spain (Europe); and Maputo, Mozambique (Africa) as part of the Global Light of Peace (GLOP) 2017.
In this city, the event was organized by Middle Way Meditation Institute in coordination with the National Youth Commission (NYC) Visayas.
Seen at the convention center were NYC Visayas commissioner Rhea Peñaflor, Sen. Cynthia Villar and former San Enrique, Iloilo mayor Ramona Go, among others.
“We need world peace kasi marami tayong problema ngayon, hindi lang sa ibang bansa katulad ng problema sa (North) Korea, Middle East and our country katulad sa Marawi City. We really have to support movements for peace in the world,” said Villar.
North Korea recently conducted a nuclear bomb test, reaping condemnation across the globe and raising concerns of a destructive war erupting in the Korean Peninsula.
Go, on the other hand, said world peace can be attained only if “we really have peace within.”
Her municipality of San Enrique in northern Iloilo province hosted the Global Light of Peace in 2015.
