ILOILO City – Water is not only vital for people to live. It is also the lifeblood of economy. Thus it must be valued and conserved.
The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) seeks to raise public awareness, especially among youngsters, on the importance of water.
“I-practice ta gid adlaw-adlaw ang pagtipid sang tubig,” said Engineer Rolex Jodieres, general manager of MIWD.
It was World Water Day yesterday. MIWD, together with Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corp., held an education and information campaign.
Valuing and conserving water must start from within, and it should be practiced daily “maski damu pa kita tubig,” Jodieres stressed.
He added: “Mag re-use sang tubig nga gingamit sa paglaba. Puede ini magamit sa pag-flush sang comfort room ukon sa panglampasu kag iban pa.”
By doing so daily, Jodieres said, “we can make a difference and influence our family members.”
“Kag sa aton nga komunidad, magalapta pa gid ini kun ini makita man sang aton mga ka-ingod. Napaka-importante ang impluwensiya sang pagpakita sang ehemplo. Kun consistent kita, ma-ipon gid ina naton ang resulta sang aton pagkonserba. Let us walk the talk,” he said.
‘VALUING WATER’
MWID also conducted a photo art contest.
“Magamit naton ang mga talento sang mga Ilonggo kag mapakita ang importance kag value sang water sa pang adlaw adlaw naton nga pagginawi,” Jodieres said.
On the part of the MIWD’s regular program on water conservation, Jodieres said they have education and information campaign materials posted through social media and their website. They are also partnering with local media outlets.
As to reducing non-revenue water, the company has been repairing leakages and replacing old pipeline with new and big ones.
