LGBTQIA+ member killed in Kalibo road mishap

AKLAN – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a member of the LGBTQIA+ community on June 28, after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) at the intersection of Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue and Judge Martelino Street in Barangay Andagao, Kalibo town.

The victim was identified as Willy Molina, 46, a resident of Sitio Tugbungan, Barangay Pook, Kalibo. The SUV driver, identified by the alias “Jose,” 31, is a resident of the town’s Barangay Poblacion.

According to the initial investigation by the Kalibo Municipal Police Station, both vehicles were traveling in the same direction along J. Cardinal Sin Avenue. The SUV had activated its signal light and was about to turn onto Judge Martelino Street when the motorcycle, allegedly at high speed, sideswiped the SUV.

CCTV footage showed the motorcycle losing control after the collision, causing the rider to swerve and crash at the roadside.

Molina sustained severe head trauma and multiple bodily injuries. He was transported to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

As of this writing, both vehicles and the SUV driver were under temporary custody at the Kalibo Municipal Police Station for further investigation and proper disposition.

Authorities were also continuing to gather additional evidence and eyewitness accounts to determine possible liabilities in the fatal crash./PN
