BACOLOD City — A 53-year-old local government unit (LGU) employee died after being struck by a vehicle along the national highway in Barangay Tabigue, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday morning.
According to a report from the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, the accident occurred at around 7:15 a.m.
Initial police investigation showed that a red Mitsubishi Mirage driven by a 36-year-old female clinical instructor, identified only as “Eva,” was traveling northbound from E.B. Magalona toward Victorias City when it accidentally hit the pedestrian who was walking along the roadside.
The victim, a married resident of Barangay Tabigue and an employee of the local government, sustained severe head injuries as a result of the collision.
Personnel from the E.B. Magalona Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately responded to the incident and rushed the victim to the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City for emergency medical treatment.
However, the attending physician declared the victim dead on arrival.
Police have withheld the identities of both the victim and the driver pending further investigation.
Authorities are continuing their probe to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including possible driver liability and other factors that may have contributed to the accident.
