KALIBO, Aklan – Tour guides in Libacao town were being trained to help increase the capacities of vulnerable communities against the impact of natural hazards.
Twenty participants were undergoing skills training on tour guiding and adventure services with disaster risk reduction management component at the Libacao Cultural Center from Feb. 20 to 28, Provincial Tourism Officer Roselle Ruiz said.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is facilitating the training, a project under its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), in partnership with the local government of Libacao.
The SLP is a community-based, capacity-building program aimed at creating more job and economic opportunities for families.
Aside from tour guiding techniques, sustainable tourism and environmental management, the history of Libacao, and culture and tourism were also discussed.
Tour guides were also being taught disaster risk management to improve their emergency preparedness and response skills.
Libacao boasts of unspoiled natural beauty and thrilling river adventures like kayaking and bamboo rafting.
An upland municipality, it has vast hilly terrains and waterfalls and is considered an excellent site for camping and mountain and jungle trekking. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
