CEBU City – The Office of the Building Official (OBO) ordered the suspension of construction work on the two-storey mall on Natalio Bacalso Avenue a day after a crane collapsed on four houses and injured a woman.
Engr. Josefa Ylanan, acting OBO chief, said she directed Metro Dyna Build, Inc. to submit an incident report and explain why its crane collapsed.
“In the meantime, I gave an order to suspend all the works until such time they will be able to explain [and] do something about the crane and the affected areas,” she said.
Ylanan said the OBO will also find out whether or not the company committed violations.
The crane of the ongoing mall construction collapsed past 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Elenita Navasca, 32, was playing with her 5-year-old niece in their bedroom when she heard a huge thud and the lights suddenly turned off.
Navasca said she immediately grabbed the child from the bed and ran out of the room.
She said the incident was so quick she did not notice that her knee was wounded.
Rescuers brought Navasca to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of her wound.
Her aunt Segundina Cavan, who owns the four houses that were damaged, appealed to the company to pay them for the damage worth about P1 million. (PNA)
