SAN JOSE, Antique – A potable water system was launched recently in Barangay Igcagay, Libertad town.
The P1.3-million project was funded under the Bottom-Up Budgeting program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), according to the agency’s information officer Judy Mae Magdato.
Igcagay was an identified waterless barangay in Libertad. It is home to 112 households.
“Natutuwa po ako at ang aking mga kasama sa RPRAT na kami sa national government ay nakatulong din po sa local government, at ito po ay na-implement ng maayos sa pamumuno ni Mayor Mary Jean N. Te,” said DILG regional director Atty. Anthony C. Nuyda, one of those who led the inauguration.
The RPRAT is the Regional Poverty Reduction Action Team.
It was found during a BUB consultation that small communities would often find difficulty obtaining funding for a water system project.
“Malayo po ang dating pinagkukunan namin ng tubig at hindi po nasusuportahan ang buong barangay kaya humingi po ako ng tulong sa DILG,” said Barangay Captain Enrique Artucilla.
“Laking pasasalamat po ng mga taga-Barangay Igcagay kasi napondohan at may 25 tap stands ang naipatayo sa iba’t-ibang parte ng barangay,” he added.
Moreover, he said, the water system will allow them to distribute water to the neighboring villages, allowing the community to easily access potable water. (PIA/PN)
