ILOILO — The upcoming Liga Day 2025 will not only gather more than 13,000 barangay officials at the Iloilo Sports Complex on Aug. 24 but also highlight a groundbreaking assistance program aimed at providing immediate support to officials in crisis situations.

Liga ng mga Barangay Iloilo Chapter president and ex-officio Provincial Board member Amalia Victoria Debuque announced the launch of “Kaibigan Mo ang Liga,” a program designed to deliver fast-track medical and burial assistance to barangay council members, secretaries, and treasurers.

“In celebration of our Liga Month, the Provincial Liga Office is committed to providing essential medical and burial assistance to all barangay officials across the province of Iloilo. This initiative demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that our barangay officials receive timely and effective support without the burden of lengthy and complicated application processes,” Debuque said.

Since its rollout, six barangay officials have already received aid, proving its immediate impact.

Themed “Sa Tunga sang Paglaum kag Pagpangduha-duha, Isa Kita,” this year’s Liga Day also features awarding ceremonies for outstanding barangays under the Seal of Good Local Governance, sports competitions, celebrity appearances, and raffle draws.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., district representatives, provincial board members, and national league officers are expected to attend.

“This is an opportunity for our beloved barangay officials to learn more about our upcoming activities,” said Debuque.

She added: “Last year, we welcomed over 11,400 participants, but this year, we are ecstatic to announce that we have reached 13,300…We’re looking to elevate this year;s activities compared to last year’s event.”/PN
